Becoming A Word & Spirit Christian

Date & Time: Thursday, June 21, 2012, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Many Christ-followers tend toward one of two extremes: being deeply devoted to the Word but keeping an arm’s distance from the things of the Spirit, or being very “into” the Spirit without a reliance on the Word.  There is a better, more biblical way. There is a more Spirit-led way.  God wants His people to be guided by His Word and empowered by His Spirit.  This seminar will examine the biblical basis for living as Word and Spirit Christians, as well as provide some very practical guidance for walking this out.

Origins of the Bible

Date and Time: Thursdays, July 12, 19, & 26, 7:00 - 8:30 PM
While popular media have portrayed Biblical origins as everything but a process inspired by the Holy Spirit, in this course participants will examine the dynamics of the early Christian church and the process that resulted in accepting our current 27 New Testament books and excluding many others, as well as the circumstances in the early church that fostered the need for a defined set of books to serve as authoritative words of God. Further, participants will consider the discovery of various ancient manuscripts and how they were chosen as the sources for the various translations used in the church today. By learning the actual process of the writing and selection of the books of the Bible, participants will learn how God worked through and with the early Christians to create a collection of works that is truly His inspired word.

Hymns of Our Faith

Date & Time: Saturday, August 25th, 2012, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
In this course, participants will examine classic hymns of the Christian faith, focusing on the powerful messages the words convey.  They will learn about the hymn writer and hymn composer, their struggles and their commitment to Christ, as well as any circumstances associated with the writing of specific hymns.  By knowing more about the hymn writers, and in many cases the specific situations the Holy Spirit used to inspire the writers to create their messages, the hymns themselves can become more meaningful to believers. Participants will also praise God for the role the hymns play in our faith through the singing of the hymns studied.
